momsen in september

My favourite starlet of the moment is on the cover of TeenVogue September 2009. I think she's awfully talented for someone her age. She's all of 16 years old, currently starring in the series that whoever lives and dies by fashion cannot afford to miss, i.e. Gossip Girl, and I can't wait for season 3, the suspense's killin' me. Her on-screen character, not to mention fashion sense, seems increasingly geared towards her off-screen rock personality. Can't blame her as she's formed and now fronts her own band, The Pretty Reckless. I reiterate I love her style.

Did I not mention? She's Taylor Momsen.

TeenVogue did a great job in bringing out the rocker in her, while maintaining her youthfulness and feminine side, through the mixing and matching of bold accessories, printed tees and daily staples.

green with envy

These booties from Christian Lacroix's Fall Winter 2008/2009 Collection are so desirable! Subtle green shade lends a fresh vibe to the booties, while rough textures contrast between the extreme three-dimensioned ribbon and its smooth body. The overall presentation wraps up with a soft contour around the feet, adding a feminine touch to it.

Sophistication with a pinch of playfulness, I would say.

alexanders, the great

Alexander Wang

or, Alexander Wang

The Musician or the Designer? For those who know me, I'll definitely go for the former, more commonly known as Leehom. He's multi-talented, what with being a producer, singer song-writer, directs his own music videos and able to play the violin (he learnt since he was 5), piano, guitar, drums, erhu etc, and does them all in a humble manner. Yes, yes, I'm a fan. Ok, that's an understatement, I'm a HUGE fan. There, that does justice.

I know it's completely unfair to compare the two coming from totally different leagues but it tickles me to think about these famous artistes sharing the same surnames and christian names. It'll probably make more sense to compare A.W. (the latter) with Alexander McQueen. I must admit that I haven't browsed much on A.W. until today, but I constantly see his name popping up in various fashion blogs to a point that I must really take a look at his collections. I must say his ready-to-wear staples are not my cup of tea, hues too neutral in my view, but I do like some of his shoes and bags. What can I say? I'm a shoes and bags freak, I love almost anything that has to do with these. I'll have to go with Alexander McQueen for the quirkiness and interesting details in his designs.

I'm all into quirks.

king of pop, always

I've viewed, as have millions around the world on 7 July 2009, the Michael Jackson Memorial Service.

Brooke Shields recollected the memorable events in their friendship and Paris Jackson gave a tearful description of her doting late father. Then there was Blanket's innocent question about the whereabouts of daddy. I started believing strongly that MJ wasn't the wacko that the malicious tabloids made him out to be.

Browsing through the online news, I read of MJ's former personal chef, Kai Chase's enjoyable working experiences with her late employer.

Coupled with speeches given by the many people who attended the memorial service and once played a part in MJ's life, it prompted me to voice my views on the late King of Pop since his death on 25 June 2009.

He was:

A friend one finds comfort in,
A loving and responsible father,
A sweet and thoughtful employer,
And still is, the King of Pop, with a heart that only those close to him could feel.

Watch these videos, read the articles. Enough is said of MJ's true character.

lacroix, costumier who embellishes

Speaking of Christian Lacroix, the months of March 2009 to June 2009 saw close to 80 impressive costumes and 60 sketches from the couture designer's personal, as well as the Centre National du Costume de Scène's collections exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore.

The mannequins had to be specially made to fit the dimensions of the costumes worn by the actual theatre actors, actresses and singers, therefore they're not your average generic ones behind the display windows.

"I love extravagant things", says Lacroix. We sure could tell.

Eliogabalo

Cosi fan tutte

Carmen

Phèdre

Les Art Florissants

Les Anges ternis

One of the extravagant things that Lacroix likes is tutu, "It's a mad invention, both magical and surreal". I couldn't agree more, I love tutus too! Now those brightly coloured tutus are making me crave for macarons...
